The founder of Ponsse Plc, Einari Vidgren, was born on a small farm in Vieremä, Upper Savonia, during the Continuation War. Already at the age of fourteen, he worked in the forests with a frame saw and an axe. Logs were hauled by horses. Over the years, Einari considered how to increase productivity in forestry work. He wasn't happy with the forest tractors of that time - they were not sturdy enough and did not meet loggers' needs. Soon the young man, who did not fear technology, set up his own workshop in Vieremä and started to pursue his dream of constructing forest machines.
